Carollo Engineers & Palmdale Water District
Literature Review of TOC Removal Technologies

The Palmdale Water District utilizes the California State Project Water as its water source. The District retained the services of Carollo Engineers and WQTS to evaluate technologies that can be implemented at the water treatment plant to improve the removal of Total Organic Carbon (TOC) from the water. As part of this effort, WQTS conducted a literature review of technologies used for the removal of TOC from drinking water with the goal of reducing the formation of harmful disinfection by-products (DBPs). WQTS tapped into its internal electronic database of approximately 1,000 articles to identify newly published information on the performance of TOC removal technologies. The outcome of the review was presented in a document that was included in the project final report.
