Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District
Evaluation, Selection, and Pilot Testing of Arsenic
Treatment Technologies

The Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District, located in Southern California, utilizes local groundwater as one of its primary water sources. Four of the Districtís wells contained arsenic above the newly adopted Federal limit of 10 ppb. Through a subcontract with Carollo Engineers, the District retained the services of WQTS to evaluate alternative treatment technologies for arsenic removal. WQTS staff identified a list of treatment options, analyzed their advantages, disadvantages, and costs, and selected a recommended technology for implementation at the Districtís wells. WQTS then conducted a two-month pilot-scale evaluation of the selected technology, culminating in the development of the appropriate design criteria for the 3,500 gpm (5 MGD) full-scale treatment system.
